Although the new spinoff has been a constant streaming hit, and has spent the last week at No. 2 on Starz in the U.S., as well as the first few spots on Prime Video in Europe and Asia, viewers criticized House of Ashur for being "too woke."
Most of the complains lied with Achilla's character, calling it "another feminist manifesto where women are strong and men are weak." However, the show has also received positive reviews, with a review reading, "Any real fan of Spartacus should enjoy this.
With how much the house has riding on this, is Achilia prepared to take on the Brothers Ferox? She just does and says what she wants when she wants to, and however she feels like doing it."
New episodes of Spartacus: House of Ashur stream on Fridays. Slater says of the couple’s passion, “On a scale of one to 10, they’re a 15.
Spartacus: House of Ashur is a new installment in the sprawling universe that started in 2010. “He’s a loyal guy, but he’s never gotten an opportunity to prove his loyalty. They have to colonize Asher's villa to kick things up and get things going in their direction," Slater told ScreenRant. Ashur was expecting Marcus Crassus, but instead met Julius Caesar (Jackson Gallagher).
“Ashur’s demanding, but they have mutual respect. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.

He finds one in ferocious Achillia (Tenika Davis), whom he first encounters as she’s kicking some Roman soldiers’ butts in order to escape a slave market.Although the show has received some criticism and divided critics and the audience, it has been a constant hit on the platform. As highlighted in the clip, women might not have fought, but she is proving why they're able to hold their own against a series of other experienced gladiators.
The official description for the upcoming Episode 4, "Blood and Bone," reads, "Ashur desperately maneuvers to secure a place in the upcoming games of the Ludi Apollinares before the imminent arrival of Marcus Crassus." Maha Vrvilo directed the episode from a script by Ihouma Ofordire.
Spartacus: House of Ashur marks a new entry in the long-running, violent franchise.
They’re sometimes joined by a third, demure Messia (Ivana Baquero), who has secret desires.
As Ashur steers his unruly gladiators toward success, he becomes enmeshed in Roman politics with Julius Caesar (Jackson Gallagher) and his wife Cornelia (Jaime Slater).
That’s what Achillia goes through when she realizes just how big a beast she’s about to fight.”
Ashur particularly wants her to impress the snobby Roman aristocrat Cossutia (Claudia Black) and her senator husband Gabinius (Andrew McFarlane), whose pure-hearted widowed daughter Viridia (India Shaw-Smith) takes Ashur’s breath away.
That act made him a friend to the Roman Republic. “Suddenly she can imagine a different life for herself, not as a gladiator but as an unconstrained woman,” Shaw-Smith says. Adds Slater, “We make Ashur’s life a living hell.”
No doubt Ashur’s used to that; “to hell and back” would be a suitable motto.

The Bloodiest and Horniest TV Show Ever Made Slays Competition on Another Streaming Platform
Ten years after fans thought that the Spartacus saga was over, Starz has revived the universe with a fresh take. It’s mutual. Steven S. DeKnight, the creator, writer, of the original series, serves as showrunner and executive producer on the new entry, as well.
He’s a sensitive dude on top of it. The gladiatrix later heads to Tarchon, who is on the ground after a fight, telling him that it's a "proper place for a weakened animal."
Tenika Davis plays Achilla, the first female gladiator in the show. It’s an assault on the senses, in a good way, and the chariot-race pace never slows.
“It’s a blessing to come back to this role.
It’s no easier on set: “Between takes, I was on the ground, covered in dust, mud, blood after fighting multiple assailants. The series reimagines a world in which Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay) did not die at Mt. Vesuvius, but instead defeated Spartacus and quelled the rebellion. He gets carried away in certain situations and snaps.”
After his short temper spurs a gory gladiator-school incident, Ashur is suddenly on the hunt for a new superstar.
“Ashur sees something of himself in her,” Tarabay says.
