Hojlund, who featured for the Danes at Euro 2024, followed that up with 10 goals in 2024/25. He said: “I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens.

“I’m still very young. The Danish striker is keen to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place, even saying so himself in America.

Transfermarkt currently value Hojlund at €35m.

Amorim does not appear keen on using Hojlund as his first choice striker, meaning at just 22, his minutes will be significantly limited and his development slowed.

Just focusing on continuing that.

“Competition is fine with me. It’s not only a hint that he may be happy to remain in Naples, but it incorrectly suggests that the move to Napoli was his decision.

Hojlund shared a picture of him lifting the trophy, writing: “What a great decision looks like.”

So, after a bit of digging, we came across quotes made by Hojlund in July.

The Dane was hoping to fight for a place in the team regardless of the summer-long quest to sign a new striker.

Speaking to TNT Sports in the summer, Hojlund didn’t sound like a player who wanted to leave Old Trafford.

From Gelsenkirchen to Riyadh, he has covered some of the biggest games in football in his three years in the industry. I’m only 22.

“Obviously, not every striker is scoring 100 goals at the age of 22, but I’ve learned a lot, I think you can see in my game. I think people forget that sometimes.

Rasmus Hojlund can’t re-write history, he clearly stated he wanted to stay at Man Utd

Rasmus Hojlund won the Italian Super Cup on Monday night when Napoli beat Bologna 2-0 in Riyadh.

The Manchester United loanee didn’t score in the final, but he got on the scoresheet in their 2-0 win over AC Milan in the previous round.

Antonio Conte stressed he wants to keep Rasmus Hojlund in the team, despite the return of Romelu Lukaku from injury.

Hojlund was on the pitch with former United midfielder Scott McTominay as Napoli won the Italian Super Cup for the third time in their history.

Conte was quick to praise the former United teammates after the game.

Did Manchester United make a mistake sending Rasmus Hojlund on loan?

Earlier this week, McTominay spoke about players leaving United and stressed that he disagrees with those who blame the club.

The Napoli duo have shown that it’s achievable to win silverware after leaving Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund wanted to stay at Man Utd in the summer

Even when it was clear that Ruben Amorim was making plans without Hojlund by overlooking the striker at the start of the season, as well as the arrival of Benjamin Sesko, it was widely reported that the Dane wanted to stay at United.

Hojlund had two seasons leading the line in attack for United, scoring just 26 goals before Amorim decided it would be best to move him on.

That was when Hojlund took the opportunity to sign for Napoli on a season-long loan, which includes a clause that may see the Serie A champions sign the striker on a permanent deal at the end of the campaign.

However, Hojlund’s cheeky social media post following Napoli’s Italian Super Cup triumph doesn’t quite add up.

I think it’s good with competition, and it only sharpens the team.”

Scott McTominay HIT OUT at claims United hold players back

What do you think of McTominay's comments?

‘We lacked clinical finishing against a strong team, but it remains a great performance, and I can only be happy and proud.’

Speaking earlier in the month, Hojlund offered the clearest indication yet that he intends to return to Napoli next season.

‘Next season, I’ll give my interviews in Italian,’ the striker told DAZN when asked what the long-term future might hold for him at Napoli.

That’s why I came here.

I’m more than ready.

And that initial loan is likely to be made permanent for a £38m fee if certain conditions are met, including Napoli securing qualification for the Champions League.

Napoli currently sit third in the Serie A table, two points behind leaders Inter Milan, while Hojlund has scored seven goals in 19 games in all competitions, including a goal in the 2-0 Super Cup semi-final win over AC Milan.

Clearly still enjoying life at his new club, Hojlund even took the time to aim a dig at his parent club on social media in a post celebrating Napoli’s Super Cup triumph.

Posting a picture on Instagram of him holding the trophy, Hojlund wrote: ‘What a great decision looks like.’

Several of Hojlund’s former teammates at United, including Lisandro Martinez, Chido Obi, Patrick Dorgu and Andre Onana, liked the post.

Speaking after his side’s victory over Bologna, Conte once again paid tribute to Hojlund and fellow former United star Scott McTominay for how the pair have shone since their respective moves to Italy.

‘Hojlund and McTominay were not playing at Manchester United, so there must be a reason given the work done by me and my staff,’ he said.

‘I believe our job is to expand a player’s knowledge and make him stronger.

‘I invest a lot in that, and I think every player I have worked with has always come out improved technically, tactically, and mentally.

He also broke the Premier League record for the youngest-ever player to score in six successive Premier League outings, following his opening goal against Luton Town in our 2-1 away win.
